It's no secret that we're a generation of binge-watchers. According to a study by Three, '47% of 16-24s binge-watch all shows', which means that we get through a lot of TV content in under 24 hours. But exactly what shows are the most binge-watchable? The Debrief finds out...
Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life
Netflix recently released a list of the most binge-watched shows, and surprisingly, Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life, chopped the charts. It had the highest number of users finishing the show within 24 hours of it's release. Why? Well, you could say that it’s an easy watch. Plus, according to Three’s study, 34.5% of respondents prefer to binge-watch on comedy content, as opposed to documentaries, action, sports and reality shows. Interesting...
House of Cards
The award-winning political drama House of Cards has been a long-standing favourite with binge-watchers, according to Netflix. And when the TV streaming site premiered the entire first season on the same day in 2013, they unleashed our binge-watching demons and set the trend for completing a series in under a day.
Luther
British crime drama series Luther features Idris Elba as the brilliant murder detective who has good intentions, but is sometimes consumed by the darkness of the crimes he tries to solve. If you haven't watched it yet, we highly recommend - it's a good'un (and the binge-watchers of Netflix seem to agree, too!). Considering there are generally under five episodes per series, you'll be able to whizz through them super quickly.
Fuller House
If you were a Tanner family and Full House fan back in the 1990s, then you'll love Netflix's Fuller House spin-off show, which follows the current adventures of the family (minus our fave celeb twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) and ranks high on their list of most binge-watched shows. Talk about throwback!
Stranger Things
This Netflix original drama - which is set in the 1980s - is all about mystery and supernatural forces. According to Netflix, the first series was a massive hit with binge-watchers around the world (and with our team here at The Debrief!), so you can expect big things from the second series which aired last week. Just remember to stock up on Eggos before watching...
Orange Is The New Black
Forced to trade in her slick work suits for orange prison jumpsuits, Orange Is The New Black’s main protagonist Piper Chapman has to make her way through a prison corrections system for drug involvement. Funny and drama-filled, this show is an easy watch, so it's no surprise that it ranks high up the list of Netflix’s most binge-watched shows.
The Walking Dead
This summer, Amazon revealed that The Walking Dead was one of the most downloaded Amazon Prime Video shows of the year, which just goes to show that we’re a nation of offline streaming service addicts. And while this doesn’t technically mean that TheWalkingDead is one of the most binge-watched shows, it’s likely that it’s up there on the list! So, if you’re into zombie apocalypses and mass hysteria, you know what to watch next...
Vikings
Ancient history fans, this is your time to shine. This action-packed TV show from The History Channel is another one of Amazon Prime Video’s most downloaded shows - and we can see why! It follows the life of historic (and hunky) hero Ragnar Lothbrok on his quest to becoming King of the Vikings. And with five juicy seasons currently out, it’s perfect for binge-watching.
