The Best Parties To Go To This Weekend Once You’ve Watched The Football

You might not be in Rio, but you can still have a good time.

World Cup excitement meets the usual Saturday night out this week. In fact, a few of this weekend’s nights come with the added attraction of watching the England vs Italy game live from Brazil at 11pm and then dancing into the early hours without moving venue. It’s going to be incredibly tempting to wear a football shirt out – not only are they reliably made of breathable material (keeping cool is essential), but some of them aren’t bad looking. Honduras’ minimalist one, Uruguay’s pastels and Cameroon’s printget high marks.

Soundplate presents World Cup Football @ The Wick, Hackney

Friday 13 Jun

Promoters Soundplate present an entire night of World Cup football out in Hackney Wick. Mexico vs Cameroon and Spain vs Netherlands (should be a big one) face off on the big screens, before Soundplate residents and special guests take over. They also promise food stalls, art installations, a garden AND beach bar, table football, Playstation 3s, table tennis and plenty more to do if you end up watching dry 0-0 draws before the music kicks in. Sounds ideal.

Gilles Peterson, Funkineven, Romare @ The Night Kitchen, Sheffield

Friday 13 Jun

The Night Kitchen’s four spaces host a LOT of music from 7pm to 7am this Friday and, while there’s no mention of the football DJ, Brownswood Records head and HUGE world music fan Gilles Peterson will be playing his well-timed Brazil Sonzeria set in support of the album Brasil Bam Bam Bam – 'a journey through Brazilian music culture from it’s majestic heritage to super-dynamic present'. London producer Funkineven (check out the 'squelch electro-funk baselines and soulful vocal riffs' of this XLR8R mix) and Romare also play.

**Found Festival 2014 @ Haggerston Park, London **

Found Festival Afterparty @ Coronet Theatre, London

Sat 14 Jun

Last weekend, London music fans travelled to Victoria Park, this time it’s Haggerston park that will get dusty from dance music. Over three stages pick between sets from Jackathon head Heidi, Ben Pearce, Dense & Pika, the so-so-so summer appropriate Moodymann, Bicep, Lil Louis or the NoFitState tent. Afterwards, it’s down to Elephant & Castle for the after party, where there will be five rooms of music presented by the festival (Anime Edge & DANCE, Kidnap Kid), Hypercolour (Glimpse, Eliphino), Percolate (Ejeca, Cassio Kohl), Comm.une (top secret line up OOH) and The Menendez Brothers (Voyeur, Dan Shake & more). 'Uncompromising party vibes' are promised.

Pangaea @ Soup Kitchen, Manchester

World Cup 2014 @ Soup Kitchen, Manchester

Sat 14 Jun

The Soup Kitchen in Manchester isn’t messing around or considering the fact that a lot of people might not want to watch the football with their simply titled ‘World Cup 2014 @ Soup Kitchen’ night on Saturday. As simple as it sounds, they’ll be showing the first game of England’s quest not to get kicked out of the group stages with the match at 11pm, followed by their ‘pro strike force’ MACCA and TOM BOOGIZM playing ‘boogie, house, hip-hop, techno’. Maybe there will World In Motion and maybe Three Lions, but hopefully not Vindaloo or any of the new world cup songs.

Balamii w Paleman, Darq E Freaker @ Corsica Studios, London

Sat 14 Jun

Seeerious Bass @ Ramsgate Music Hall, Ramsgate, Kent

Sat 14 Jun

EDIT @ BELOW Pelican & Parrots, London

Sat 14 Jun

OK, OK, OK, there are actually loads of usual nights on, too. Take Balamii on Saturday night across two rooms at Corsica studios where, instead of Sturridge, Rooney and Stevie G, you’ll get Paleman and Mickey Pearce in the Swamp 81 room and Darq E Freaker, DJ Cameo and Siobhan Bell in Room 2 playing all things trap, hip-hop and bass. There’s also serious bass (so serious they’ve spelled it ‘Seeerious’ down in Kent, for a night of ‘experimental and not-so-experimental bass-driven music’. Keysound’s Wen headlines. And there’s a new night launching below Pelican and Parrots in London. They say: 'EDIT is a child of the beat scene, taking inspiration from the forward-thinking musical movements coming out of the states such as Soulection and Huh, What & Where.' Expect DJs playing music from the likes of Kaytranada, Sango and Cashmere Cat. Free entry, but you’ll need your name on their

to get in. Result.
