1. The Way Back

There's been more than a few questions about how true this 'real life' story actually is. Either way, The Way Back, based on the 1956 book The Long Walk, makes for an interesting look at a different side of WWII. It's about a group of soldiers who escaped a Siberian Gulag and made the trek, on foot, through blizzard and dessert, 4000 miles to safety in India.

From December 1st.

2. Into The Woods

Full disclosure, this film is pretty rubbish, even with Meryl Streep and Christine Baranski starring in a number of exceptional costumes. There's just something about James Corden running around the woods singing that makes you go 'wait, whaaaaa?' Nevertheless, Christmas is coming up, and you're going to need a number of nan-friendly, family pleasing films up your sleeve to pull out at a moment's notice. This, my friend, is one of those films. You're welcome.

From December 4th

3. Joe And Caspar Hit The Road

Loveable YouTubers Joe Sugg and Caspar Lee take themselves off round Europe on a road trip which sees them try out different jobs specific to different countries - think gondolier-ing in Venice, modelling in Milan... Think of it as The Simple Life for Generation Z. If you like Joe and Caspar, you'll like this. If not, you'll probably wonder what the hell is going on.

4. The Forest

A super spooky horror film starring Natalie Dormer about a girl whose sister, living in Japan, disappears in Aokigahara Forest which is famous for being a popular suicide spot. Basically, you walk into the woods, you don't walk back out. Natalie Dormer then, decides to take matters into her own hands and heads into the spooky spooky forest on a rescue mission that will scare the living shit out her. And you.

5. A Most Violent Year

This was up for a bunch of Oscars a few years back but no-one really seemed that bothered about it. Which is a shame, because it's a damn good movie. Oscar Isaacs stars as a business owner trying to stay straight in the notoriously corrupt New York City during it's most violent year, 1981. Jessica Chastain is also in it and nails it with her no-nonsense, impeccably-dressed portrayal of his wife.

6. Fools Rush In

One of those times one of the cast of Friends tried to break out of the Central Perk box. This 1997 film starring Chandler was actually one of the better attempts and he stars as Alec, a perpetually single chap who accidentally gets married to and impregnates Salma Hayek in Las Vegas. The trouble is, Salma's family are strict Latino Catholics and so, Chandler's got no choice but to throw himself into the marriage, and family life, full throttle.

From December 21st

7. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Definitely the finest installment in the Hunger Games series film wise. This second film sees Katniss, Peeta and other victors head back into the ring to fight again to the death on account of the uprisings around the country that Katniss and Peeta's joint victory caused the first time around. President Snow is still a total wanker.
