When I was 23, I was dead proud of myself for being the kind of classy chef that microwaved a baked potato and then finished it off in the oven, choosing to crisp it up over satiating my hunger immediately. That, for me, was the sign of a connoisseur, a woman of the world, a 'foodie', if you will.
Benjamina, one of the Great British Bake Off's newest stars in this the seventh series of the BBC's most addictive show, is 23. The stuff she cooks is a bit better than our crispy baked potato. Things like this Christmas cake she made for instance. That's pretty good isn't it?
So, who is this super girl who's representing our generation on Bake Off? Let's take a look...
Who is Benjamina?
She's a teaching assistant, from South London. She got a first in Economics from the University of Leicester. She also has a twin.
How old is Benjamina?
-
Told you that one already.
How long has Benjamina been baking for?
Since she was 14, that's eight years. You've still got time. Unless you're past 90. In which case, have a rest and watch the telly. Someone else can bake for you.
What does Benjamina do?
Other than being a teaching assistant, she runs a food blog, Carrot & Crumb which is full of dead nice recipes including this one for Peanut Butter Banana Bread. Yeah. You like that don't you? One day she says she wants to turn baking into her full time job and have 'her own place'.
What is Benjamina's Instagram?
It's @BakedByBenji. Have a look for nice cakes, tarts and breads.
What is Benjamina's Twitter?
Again it's @BakedByBenji. On it we learned she loved Orange Is The New Black, IKEA meatballs (obvs, she's got tastebuds) and smoothie bowls.
