So, there we have it. The finale of And Just Like That has come and gone. After the long-awaited reboot hit our screens we’ve loved, loathed and laughed, but now it’s all over. While the modernised reboot has had many mixed reviews, there are still many unanswered questions – like what really happened in Cleveland? But the main question fans have stems from the lack of everyone’s favourite denim-wearing furniture maker, Aidan Shaw (John Corbett), i.e. Carrie’s fiancé. Where in the world was Aidan?
We went through the season with bated breath thinking that at any moment, he would pop up and make our day. This might just sting as much as Samantha's gaping hole. We even got confirmation of Aidan's return, remember? Lest we forget, when John Corbett confirmed his involvement in And Just Like That all the way back in April 2021. 'I’m going to do the show,' he revealed to Page Six. He said his return was going to be 'very exciting.' John even hinted that he 'might be in quite a few' episodes of the reboot.
Unless we blinked and missed him rolling in on his leather chair, there was (spoiler alert!) no Aidan in the finale. So, it's fair to conclude we got our hopes up for nothing and we have been lied to! Maybe the recently announced And Just like That documentary could clear some things up about unanswered questions and missing characters.
HBO Max neither confirmed or denied the suggestion of his return at the time, but we wonder what went wrong? Did he not fit in Carrie’s arc just yet? Are they waiting for another time? Viewers will remember that we last saw Aidan was in 2010’s Sex and the City 2, when he and Carrie spontaneously met in Abu Dhabi. They still had a romantic spark and it led to a kiss (even though they were both married – and not to each other.) Before this we saw him in series six, after they broke up Carrie later bumps into Aidan holding a baby. Perhaps now that Big is gone, they’ll rekindle that relationship in season 2. Will he bring Samantha with him? We hope so!
