Since And Just Like That premiered, Sex And The City fans have been questioning Miranda’s behaviour. While many were pleased to see her following her heart’s desires, others were more sceptical of her character development.

‘I’m in a rom-com,’ Miranda told Carrie as she sat in the back of a cab and spontaneously rushed to the airport to catch a flight to Cleveland and tell Che Diaz they could be together after she split from Steve.

This was all so gushy, we couldn’t help but wonder what happened to the logical lawyer who told Carrie she was living in a fantasy when she moved to Paris with Alexander Petrovsky?

Of course, And Just Like That is set two decades after Sex And The City so it should be expected that the SATC characters have grown and developed with age. But even then, Miranda’s decisions have seemed unrealistically impulsive and emotionally charged to fans.

‘I am sooooo tired of Miranda living this double life,’ wrote one user on Twitter. ‘Big dying was one thing but Miranda being a completely different person in six episodes? I can’t take it,’ they said. ‘What happened to the tough lawyer who wasn’t so embarrassing???’ added another.

Cynthia Nixon has since jumped in to defend her character from the backlash. ‘I think some people are not loving seeing these character off-kilter, but I love that,’ she said on The Drew Barrymore Show.

‘Whatever age you are, you haven’t figured everything out,’ she continued. ‘If you think you’ve figured everything out, you’re kidding yourself.

Speaking about life in your 50s, Cynthia explained: ‘You’re not young anymore but you’re not old either. You still have time to make sure your life is the way you want it to be and if you’re deeply unhappy in your career choices or in your marriage you should look at it and demand more.’

Fans have been left so distressed by Miranda’s affair and eventual split from her husband that there has even been a Justice For Steve movement emerge on Twitter. Addressing the plotline, Cynthia told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live: ‘I have to say that that’s the thing about breakups: oftentimes there’s one person that is making the breakup happen and the other person who is reluctant…But I have to say that person who is reluctant is pretty miserable too, and they’re just not admitting it.’

With just one episode left of the reboot, it will be interesting to see whether Miranda continues to throw herself into her risky romance with Che or whether the straight-thinking Miranda who fans grew to love will return to take the reins and cut herself loose from the situation before she has the chance to get hurt.
