Looking for a way to spend your bank hols? Here's a few ideas.

1. The Bechdel Test Fest Presents: Nora Ephron's Last Supper

Those excellent ladies over at the Bechdel Test Fest (the film club inspired by Alison Bechdel's feminist film rule) is holding a day and night in honour of the late Nora Ephron, aka the woman responsible for some of the most-loved films from your past. During the day, two of her food-themed films; Julia & Julia and Heartburn will be screened and in the evening, there's going to be a supperclub with 'palette cleansers' in the form of quick talks from inspirational speakers. Even better, it's just £20 for the double bill of £40 for the supperclub & double bill.

2. How The Light Gets In Festival

Head to a festival that feeds your mind this year rather than one that deprives you of sleep and makes you do bad things to your body. Held in Hay-on-Wye (the location of that famous book festival), this festival from the Insititue of Arts and Ideas is a philosophy and music festival featuring speakers like Owen Jones, Sally Phillips, David Nutt and Natalie Bennet and soundtracked by Ghostpoet, Zero 7 and Annie Nightingale A camping ticket for the weekend is £128.

This weekend it's being held in Brixton's Dogstar. There's DJs, food and drink and even workshops. It's free to pop in, workshops start from £7.
