Beers beers beers – Strahov Monastic Brewer (Klasterni Pivovar)
In a city filled with cheap beer you’d think we’re crazy for suggesting you climb all the way up a hill to get a pint, but trust us, the walk up Petrin Hill is worth it. The beers you’ll find up at the Monastery are like nothing else in Prague. The courtyard space ain’t all that to look at, so head inside, settle down for the day and prepare to get your beer belly on. All the beers are made onsite – think fruit flavours, malt and seasonal brews (like the malty Doppelbock for Christmas). Surely you can just roll back down the hill?

Insta paradise – U Krale Brabantskeho
OK, you’ll never be able to pronounce it, but who cares when somewhere is this cool? Don’t expect fancy cocktails served in crystal glasses in this medieval tavern, it’s all about hot wine and mugs of warm mead. Hidden under the walls of Prague castle, this place is creepy and old, like opened in 1475 old. The ceiling is made out of real skulls, the benches cloaked in animal skins and you’ll get splinters from the worn wooden benches, but play along. BarChick spends lazy, dark days down here and recommends visiting during the day to avoid the touristy theatre show that takes place every night, unless, of course, you’re into that sorta thing.

For late-night cocktails – Anonymous Bar
Anonymous Bar is BarChick’s favourite for its quirky V For Vendetta theme, big time bar staff and epic cocktails. Don’t get freaked by the Guy Fawkes masks everywhere, after a few drops of absinthe in your potion you’ll be posing in one yourself. Oh, and the guys take Polaroid shots for you to take home, too. In the centre of Old Town, these guys stay open until they fancy, so it’s the perfect place to end a long night out.

For mega burgers – Dish
There seems to be a new burger joint opening every other week in Prague, but the best are still found at Dish. It’s a bit of a hike from the usual tourist trodden cobbles but that makes it even better. Sit amidst candlelit rustic wooden tables and keep it simple with a Dish burger, or brave the Olomouc & Port, made with the stinkiest of Czech cheeses. Of course the cocktails are killer, too - their Bloody Marys will keep you going all weekend.

To kick back with the locals – Cili Bar
Steer clear of the tourist haunts in Old Town and head to the local’s favourite. Cili Bar is tiny, smoky and perfectly formed – a bit like the city itself then. Fancy people watching? Kick back on the chairs outside and watch the world go by. The staff will be your new bezzies by the time you’re done with your first drink, whether that be a good G&T, a killer cocktail or if you need a recharge they’ll even knock you up a fruit smoothie.
