Yes it’s November and yes you probably think you’re miles off having to think about booking your ticket to go home but you’re wrong. In this economy with train fares going the way they are, you need to book NOW. Like right now. No really.

We spoke to Grace at the Trainline who told us that apparently, we’ve already we’ve missed the best deals. According to her, the best time to snap up a bargain is 12 weeks in advance. Now, with a mere seven weeks to go until you’re sat on that train sipping a G&T on your way back to the shire, tickets are going up by the second.

Here’s a few examples of why you need to act now.

*FYI all the below examples are for the week started 22 December and aren’t using a Young Person’s Railcard. All the ‘on the day’ options are for off-peak tickets.

London to Manchester

Currently: £35.50

On the day: £78.70

Bristol to London

Saving: £46 or this delightful Chanel-esque dress that’ll see you covered for the rest of the party season AND still work in spring. Providing you don't stain it with mince pies / vomit.

Leeds to Edinburgh

Saving: £71.80 or a return Ryan Air flight to Marrakech in February for when the winter’s got all too much.

Nottingham to York

Currently: £13.50

On the day: £43.70

Saving: £30.20 or one ticket to Dollop NYE 2014 to make sure your New Years is actually good for once.

Cardiff to Sheffield

Currently: £19

On the day: £94.90

Saving: £75.90 or these banging Topshop boots that you can wear on NYE to dance all night in and when you head back to work for a bit of a pick me up.
