Rejoice! Yesterday was one of those ‘first glimpse of spring’ days. The sky was blue, the tiny daffodils were blooming and maybe you decided 'fuck it I’m wearing loafers without socks because I want to feel the sun on my cold, cold skin' (then regretted it by 5pm). While it’s probably raining right now the evenings are lighter, there is a change in the air and some of the weekend’s events reflect that. Risk a fresh new look in a London record shop, search for new jeans, hunt for new inspiring art at a Manchester carboot or get ready for Summer with a terrace party from Brooklyn favourites Mister Sunday.

They say 'anything and everything can be sold here' but there’s a focus on work from artist and designers.

It’s funny how the weather affects music taste. Maybe that’s why Uptown Funk did so well on its release; - it brought some bright sunshine into a chart that would otherwise be full of dreary men in suits singing songs about their icy winter heartbreaks. With that in mind, this weekend’s best parties will warm even the coldest people not-moving in the club. On Friday in Leeds catch Ninja Tune signing Romare (whose new album projections is worth a listen), while on Saturday the hip-hop, jazz and funk inspired Al Dobson Jr will be nudging Liverpool into Summer. If you really can’t wait to get outside, Black Atlantic present New York’s Mister Sunday at Oval Space on Sunday. The pair are used to hosting hot parties in Brooklyn parks but this weekend they’ll make do with an enthusiastic dance floor and the outside terrace featuring ping pong and delicious chicken.

This week’s obligatory ‘if you barely want to leave the house/duvet moment’ mainly comes courtesy of Desiree Akhavan, who directed, wrote and starred in the Sundance film festival-approved Appropriate Behaviour. She plays Shirin, a New York based twenty-something who is finding it difficult to please her family from who she hides her bisexuality (and plenty of other things) as she navigates relationships, work and being confident in her own skin. Tina Fey is back in the producer role for a new Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt airing from March 6. The fizzy Ellie Kemper stars as Kimmy, who has escaped from a doomsday cult and begins a new life in New York working for Jane Krakowski’s Jacqueline Voorhees. Wait, is this a comedic extension of Taylor Swift’s Welcome To New York?
