I’ve only flown with British Airways once for a four-hour flight. Little did I know that when you fly BA, even if it’s short haul, you receive a free meal while you jet across the sky. I fell asleep on my 6.25am flight, and therefore missed the complimentary meal. This meant I woke up in a haze, angry that I had missed said meal because I normally fly Ryanair where free meals are not a thing. The moral of this story? BA used to give free meals. But now they dont.
Whenever flying British Airways economy, passengers on short-haul flights would receive a small snack and a complimentary drink, you know, on the house for being such a great passenger. Well, now instead of all the free food, the airline has signed a deal with M&S, which means passengers will have the opportunity to pay for a Marks and Sparks sandwich. I mean, it’s definitely an upgrade from plane food, but people are not happy. Most are complaining that the superior airline will now turn into one of their competitors, Easy Jet.
The change will take place from 11 January next year for passengers flying from Heathrow and Gatwick. If you’re traveling from Stanstead or London City you’ll have until summer 2017 to enjoy your free meal. BA chief executive, Alex Cruz, was behind the decision to scrap free meals, telling The Guardian: ‘we know our customers expect a great experience with British Airways. They’ve told us we are experts in flying and service, they want to choose from a wider range of premium products.’ The menu will change with the seasons, and will supposedly ‘break the mould and set a new standard in short-haul catering.’
Before you get angry and complain, we’re urging you to take into consideration that fact that Percy Pig sweets will be on offer. Just have a think about that before you send that angry tweet…
