Sometimes the best music doesn’t come from individuals, it comes from collaboration. This week’s nights all prove it whether it’s the Butterz crew championing with new talent alongside originators like Wiley, the Soulection group playing two nights across the weekend the partnership of Edwin Congreave of Foals and Jack Savidge of Friendly Fires as Deep Shit. Sometimes it’s simply the great way a venue can collaborate with DJs to put on continuously impressive nights - here’s looking at you Soup Kitchen in Manchester.

Soulection are a record label, radio show (broadcasted live every Saturday 6pm-9pm (GMT) and creative crew based originally in LA, but for one week they’re taking over London with a night at XOYO and a spot on the line up at Birthdays on Saturday. Artists including IAMNOBODI (check out this bouncier

Another UK representative Sivey gets the Fiesta going just up the road the night later.

Butterz @ Fabric, London

Friday 8th August

They’ve been mentioned in this column before (when Elijah and Skilliam recently put together a Fabriclive 75 featuring artists like Flava D, the unstoppable Lil Silva, Darq E Freaker, JME & more) but they’re a great representation of why collaborating and having many things on the go at once works. As well as regular nights at Fabric and their Jamz club, they’re still running the Butterz label, broadcasting and blogging what they’re up to. Tonight it’s a sweaty, messy, super-exciting Fabric takeover, with the whole gang (Swindle, Royal T, Flava D) plus sets from Murlo and the uncopyable Wiley.

In Deep: Deep Shit @ Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh

Friday 8th August

Deep Shit w Greco-Roman Soundsystem, @ London Edition, London

Sat 9th August

Foals’ Ed Congreave and Friendly Fires’ Jack Savidge team up in their label/DJ guise twice this weekend for Deep Shit nights at either end of the UK. On Friday it’s Edinburgh alongside house-fan Steven Windsor and Notsosilent’s Matt Belcher while on Saturday it’s their regular every-track-is-a-hit party at the London Edition basement. This month they’re joined by Greco-Roman aka the label that put out early releases by T.E.E.D, Joe Goddard and Vampire Weekend’s Baio.

Soup Kitchen 4th Birthday w Floating Points, Pender Street Steppers, Hashman Deejay @ Soup Kitchen, Manchester

Friday Sat 8th August

Idle Hands Presents Pender Street Steppers @ Cosies, Bristol

Sat August 9th

The Manchester venue celebrates its fourth birthday with one of the most popular labels/crews of the moment, plus a familiar friend in Floating Points. Pender Street Steppers and Hashman Deejay are from the Mood Hut label (Canada) and the promoters couldn’t be more excited, saying that what they’re doing, simply “party music to be danced to” fits perfectly with the ethos of everything they’re doing at the venue. As part of a tour that will visit Glasgow, London and Berlin the Vancouver based ‘Steppers and Hashman will also visit Bristol’s Cosies.
