The Best Parties To Go To This Weekend When You’re Still Knackered From The Bank Holidays

After the succession of bank holidays, you might like turning everything down and sitting in all weekend. Plus, the weather is a bit shit. Plus, there are a zillion episodes of MasterChef to catch up on. TOUGH. There’s still plenty on this weekend from Hannah Wants up North and, in the South, Murlo visiting York (Vikings beware) and two exciting nights in Peckham.

Black Butter Records (Rudimental, Gorgon City, Clean Bandit etc) duo My Nu Leng and Joe Arthur aka Applebottom also play.

Murlo

York doesn’t have the best rep for nightlife (when I worked there, the nights out included Toast - it actually gave out free toast), but this Twisup night at the newly-refurbished Mansion Underground hits the spot. London via Midlands DJ Murlo heads up bill ('working together the discombobulated sounds and mutations of current clubland with the Afro-Carribean rhythms that historically underpin London dance culture,' they say) alongside Jam&Bun’s Codex and the play Imami (who has music forthcoming on the excellent LuckyMe). Top tip: Go to York’s

alongside Bade records founder James Sison (keep an eye on that label) and disco enthusiasts Paradise Forum.

Corinne Bailey Rae’s ‘Put Your Records On’) all play.

Extra points and a free full English breakfast at Crossroads Cafe for anyone who gets stamps from both.

with some rips. It’s £5 in.

The Great Escape, Various Venues, Brighton

Part music conference, part festival, part piss-up for people who work in anything vaguely related to making and releasing music – the Great Escape is back for another year. Don’t expect it to be tins on the beach weather this year, but that doesn’t matter, there are plenty of artists playing across three days from Jungle, to Batches and Cookies favourite Lizzo to Ella Eyre and Kiesza, to Darq E Freaker and NYC rapper Le1f.****
