Next weekend is a big one - Notting Hill Carnival, Reading & Leeds festival, the penultimate weekend in August aka the last month we can legit say it’s summer until June 2015. As such, this weekend (despite some big nights… scroll to the bottom) we’ll be keeping it a little more low-key with a set of day parties and (comparatively) laid back nights.
[embed:https://soundcloud.com/mood-hut/ The Vancouver crew (named after the street where they were based) play in Glasgow on the Friday (“celebrated… for their ability to instantly imbibe an atmosphere of love sensuality and freedom” say the promoters) while on Saturday it’s down to South London for one of our favourite night’s Rhythm Section who are equally hyped with “fervid anticipation”. Plan on starting the eve with a long dinner, then get lost dancing until 6am.

The Cookout, Free BBQ @ Brixton Jamm, London
Sun 17 Aug
If you only go to one day-party all summer, make it this one. DJs 2SHY, Lexi, Kami Lo, Darkstepper and Jetsss line up for the music side with the best in UK Grime, Garage, House, R*B, Soul while from 4pm there will be jerk chicken, rice & peas, plantain, mac n cheese, salad (aka the works). If that’s not enough, WAH Nails will be on hand for free manicures before 6pm. “This is one summer event where you can leave looking better than when you arrived” they say.

Bradley Zero, Tasker @ Paperworks, London
Sun 17 Aug
This open ir venue goes from strength to strength after the official opening with the best DJs, cocktails (Bobbing for Mezcal, yes please) plus Peckham’s Ali Baba Juice (it’s delicious) curating a Sake and Japanese Whisky bar every Sat and Sun. On Saturday it’s Tender Hooks with T.Wiltshire and more http://www.mixcloud.com/tag/twiltshire/ plus a performance with the Siobhan Davies dance organisation, while on Sunday Bradley Zero and Tasker are on hand to soothe any hangovers. And incase it rains? “we go ahead rain or shine” they say “if the heavens do decide to open we got you covered with pink ponchos and a waterproof awning – THE RAIN BRINGS US TOGETHER!”. OOF.

@ Shapes, London**
Sat 16 Aug
Feelings create the Balearic vibe at indoor / outdoor venue Shapes in Hackney. 80’s Amnesia resident DJ Alfredo headlines (he says “my definitions of Balearic; it’s… eclectic, happy, sexy, not cheesy”) alongside Dan Shake, The Menendez Brothers and Kasra V plus there will be the usual summer BBQ, cocktails and “a few other surprises”.
LuckyMe Annual Party w/ S-Type, Eclair Fifi, The Blessings, Joseph Marinetti @ Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh
Sun 17 Aug
In Edinburgh but completely fed up of Fringe shows? Then you need to LuckyMe annual party. One of the best labels out right now (Hudmo and Lunice’s TNGHT, Cashmere Cat, Baauer, Jacques Greene and more are currently on the roster) this time you’ll be treated to sets from the brilliant S-Type, Clair Stirling aka Eclair Fifi, The Blessings and resident favourite Joseph Marinetti. Like the sounds on the label expect a bit of everything, but to want to dance every time.
Let It Bleed w Daniel Avery @ Secret Location, Aberdeen
**Subculture presents Ame @ Sub Club, Glasgow **
Sat Aug 16
Also up in Scotland, we were going to recommend the third in the series of Let It Bleed (first two had George Fitzgerald and DJ EZ) with Daniel Avery playing a three hour set in Aberdeen. HOWEVER with only a 250 capacity it sold out and there are no tickets on the door. BOO. You’ll have better luck in Glasgow, where Ame (whose deep house feels always work on a Glasgow dance floor apparently) play Sub Club. “their good vibes never fail to leave us in the finest of fettles” say promoters Subculture. And we LOVE it when our fettles feel fine.
