With incredible muscles comes a hell of a lot of dedication, commitment and well, sweat.
Finding the motivation to hit the gym is a struggle at the best of times, and sometimes we need more than a gentle nudge to (literally) get our bums into gear.
And while we've all got access to an endless feed of #fitspo and 'work hard, go hard, squat hard' quotes in the palm of our hands (i.e Instagram feeds) to remind us that fitness and exercise are things that exist and we should probably engage with, sometimes what you really need is to see some kick ass women with incredible muscles lifting the shit out of some monster weights to convince you to put down the packet of Mini Cheddars and pick up a dumbbell or two.
Thankfully, within Instagram is a brilliant community that celebrates women for their gym commitment, strength and awesomeness. So, if you've ever needed some inspiration to get into weights, here are the women to look up to.
Massey Aria, @massy.arias
This woman is amazing. Like, actual amazing. Be warned, her Instagram is really, really stalkable so allow yourself to a considerable amount of scroll time to dedicate to her feed. Added bonus: she posts loads of challenges that'll make you want to get your workout started.
Elisabeth Akinwale, @eakinwale
Okay so it might take a while before you have the ability to casually hold yourself in the box splits while balancing on a pair of kettlebells, but if anyone can make you want to work towards this level of awesome, it's Elisabeth.
Jen Sinklr, @jensinklr
Proving that lifting and loling can absolutely go together, ex-rugby player Jen is your go to for how-to's, funny memes and a whole lotta workout videos that you can totally attempt yourself.
Krissy Mae Cagney, @krissymaecagney
Krissy is the creator of a lifestyle brand called Doughnuts and Deadlifts which, needless to say, is a combo we can absolutely get on board with. Her bench press videos are strangely captivating.
Zanna van Dijk, @zannavandijk
I'll warn you now, Zanna has one of those feeds that makes you want to live her life and you'll probably spend hours in a black hole of Instagram stalking through beautiful pictures of super healthy food and watching her videos while you pretend she's your very own personal trainer/BFF and you'll definitely get addicted. Just, FYI.
Camille Leblanc-Bazinet, @camillelbaz
According to Camille's bio, she's competed in 7 of the CrossFit games and won fittest woman in 2014. Safe to say she's one hell of a fitness inspiration. She posts regularly about her training with nice little inspirational captions, with the odd meme for a mid-stalk chuckle.
Jeanette Jenkins, @msjeanettejenkins
If you're one of those people who needs more than a inspirational quote to get off the sofa and workout, while words of wisdom are very much part of celebrity trainer Jeanette Jenkins' feed, her video workouts and challenges might be more up your street.
Christmass Abbott, @christmasabbott
Christmas follows something she calls the Badass Body Life which, as you can tell, looks pretty damn badass. Worth a follow for some positive but non-cheesy, is-what-it-is motivation.
Becs Gentry, @becsgentry
While not strictly weight lifting, finding the will to go out for a run is defs at the top of many of our lists of things we wish we were better at. Enter Nike+ Run Club Coach, Becs. You'll be reaching for your trainers before you finish reading her captions.
Lauren Fisher @laurenfisher
22 year old Lauren is currently studying at university and also a CrossFit Games Athlete, which makes us all wonder what the hell we were so busy doing on the days we slept through our 9am lectures... She's basically the super fit buddy we wish we had at uni to give us some IRL motivation to get our bodies moving.
Chantel PR, @chantelpr
Meet the queen of the gym selfie. Chantel takes mirror selfies as hard as she can lift, and that's saying something. She's also a figure athlete which is similar to bodybuilding but with more on a focus on muscle definition than size.
Ashley Svendye, @smashleysvendbye
If you've ever wanted an introduction to powerlifting, look no further. Ashley's videos show of her mind-blowingly incredible strength, not to mention some a-class braid game that you'll totally want to try next time you go to the gym.
Katie Crewe, @katiecrewe
If you like a side of food envy with your Instagram fitspo, you'll be drooling over Katie's feed. Workout advice, exercise videos and yummy looking recipes, all right here.
