Woman Brought A House By Selling iPhones Her 20 Boyfriends Gave Her

Buying a house is pretty much out of the question for most of us with increasing house prices, and it’s the same in China. So one woman decided to take matters into her own hands and find an alternative method to buy herself a home. It involves iPhones. Lots and lots of iPhones.

The blog, published on Chinese blogging platform Tian Ya Yi Dy forum, by ‘Proud Qiaoba,’ tells the story of a woman called Xiaoli. Xiaoli is from a city in southern China called Shenzhen. Xiaoli wanted to buy herself a home, so instead of saving her own money she asked each of her 20 current boyfriends to buy her a brand new iPhone 7. Then, she sold the new iPhones on a mobile phone recycling website called Hui Shau Bao for 120, 000 Chinese yuan. GUYS THAT’S £14, 500. She then used this money as a down-payment on a house in the countryside.

Let’s take a moment here to remember that the iPhone 7 was only launched on 16 September. That is extremely speedy work. The story started trending on Chinese social media, with the hashtag, which translates as ’20 mobiles for a house’ being used over 13 million times.

In the blog post, Proud Qiaoba went on to talk about how Xiaoli isn’t ‘from a wealthy family,’ according to the BBC, and that she ‘might be under a lot of pressure hoping to buy her parents a house.’ I mean, we applaud her for getting so creative. Any boyfriends want to buy us an iPhone? Nope...
