A court in Australia has heard how Warriena Wright, 26, plunged 14 stories to her death after trying to escape a Tinder date with Gable Tostee, 30.
The pair arranged to meet in the nightclub district of the popular Surfer’s paradise however when they returned to Tostee’s apartment an argument soon erupted, which can be heard on a recording device that was left on during the date.
Tostee calls Wright a ‘pyscho bitch’ and is heard saying ‘I’ll knock you out, I’ll knock you the fuck out- do you understand?’ Noises can also be heard on the recording that appear to show Wright was being choked or strangled.
One of Tostee’s neighbour, who witnessed the altercation, described to the court how she was woken up by the sound of banging furniture. When she looked out onto her balcony she could see a pair of feet hanging from the balcony, images of which were shown to the court.
The prosecution against Tostee does not accuse him of pushing Wright off the balcony, but that he made her feel so threatened that the only option she had was try and climb down the building. Tostee has pleaded not guilty to the charges and denies strangling Wright, arguing that he was trying to restrain her in self-defence.
The trial is expected to continue into next week and police in Australia are now warning Tinder users to practice caution when arranging dates with strangers.
