WhatsApp has just revealed a whole new feature and unlike the genius addition of GIFs, we’re not convinced.
Let’s set the scene here. You know those nuisance WhatsApp groups you have with your uni friends, where you can’t leave your phone unattended for more than a total of 30 seconds without your screen being bombarded with dozens of messages and cat memes?
Well, the answer used to be muting the conversation or turning airplane mode on to avoid the dreaded double blue tick emerging (a handy hack we utilise on a daily basis).

The app has launched a new feature in which enables users to tag friends using the ‘@’ symbol in order to gain their attention.
The tag has been designed to then send a notification to your phone alerting you of their presence (even if you have muted the conversation).
We don’t know about you but we’re already dreading what our friends will tag us in. We doubt their ‘relatable’ memes will ever let us get on with our day…
