The Democratic nominee for President of the United States, Hillary Clinton, is going to get some fairly major campaign support in Ohio this weekend.

According to Variety cast members from NBC’s vintage political drama The West Wing are headed to the state this weekend at a crucial point in the battle for America’s future.

For the uninitiated The West Wing is generally considered to be one of the most inspo TV series of all time. It made politics really cool. It wasn’t relatable – everybody pretty much always did the ‘right thing’ and every character – from the President to his press secretary – was a clever super-genius. Of course, real life politicians (with the exception, perhaps, of Obama) will never be able to live up to them. The show was idealistic and fundamentally positive, in the bizarre political twilight zone we currently find ourselves in it offers us a shining beacon of hope.

If you’ve never seen The West Wing you need to drop everything immediately and watch it. If they’d aired The West Wing in the weeks running up to Brexit maybe it would never have happened. We’d all have been so inspired and galvanised that we would have turned out in far greater numbers to vote in. If you could bottle the West Wing and give it to people it would cure apathy. It’s one of the few sitcoms that can legitimately make all of the hairs on your body stand on end and send tingles up your spine.

The news that six cast former members are going to join Hillary on the campaign trail, taking The West Wing IRL may not carry any real political weight but it’s oddly reassuring. If anyone can fix it these guys can.

Richard Schiff (aka Toby), Alison Janney (aka CJ), Joshua Malina (aka Will Bailey), Bradley Whitford (aka Josh Lyman), Dulé Hill (aka Charlie) and Mary McCormack (Kate Harper) will all be attending. Not only will they head to scheduled campaign events but they will specifically encourage voters to register.

Ohio is a crucial state in America’s presidential elections, historically it’s a key decider state.

Martin Sheen, who played the President Jed Bartlett, won’t be attending. However, he did appear in a campaign video supporting Hillary.

Hold up...is it too late to nominate Jed Bartlett to stand against Trump??

The election for the President of the United States is fast approaching and will take place on November 8th. Let’s hope for a West Wing-style outcome. If anyone could stop Trump, it’s these guys.
