Admit it, your mouth starts to water when you think of a nice cool glass of prosecco. Along with the rest of the UK, our love of the bubbly is only increasing (I’m unashamed to say I’ve brought a bottle to a house party). However the average glass contains a fair amount of sugar (that evil stuff that's currently being blamed for just about every potential ailment you'll ever have). But don't fear - so-called ‘skinny,’ low sugar prosecco will soon be available in UK supermarkets.
The producers of Skinny Prosecco, which has so far only been available in select high-end stores, found their product to be so popular that customers had to join a waiting listto get their hands on a £17.99 bottle. Thankfully, it seems they’ve sorted their stocking issues, with an announcement that the rollout to supermarkets will begin as early as next Spring.
Coinciding with the ‘clean eating’, vegan and low sugar trends, Skinny Prosecco contains around 7g of sugar per litre (as opposed to the norm of 12-32g), boasts a mere 67 calories per glass, as well as being organic and vegan. With the government planning to tax sugar-laden drinks, and a few too many Kit Kats now said to cause obesity, liver problems, diabetes, and even cancer, it’s likely that demand for the fizz will only increase.
And if you were concerned the drink might leave a bitter taste, fear not: apparently it’s ‘actually nicer than normal prosecco. And because it’s not so sickly sweet you can drink even more of it’.
Even celebs have been getting on the hype:
Anything that Ellie Goulding is drinking, we definitely will too.
