Instagram may be the centre of the known universe for selfie enthusiasts (and people taking pictures of their own shoes), but it’s not just photographs; Instagram has a blog where it showcases emerging talent. Didn’t know that?
Well, that’s why Instagram HQ are recruiting a bunch of new editorial staff across their global offices. The new recruits will scour Instagram’s 300 million monthly users for talented individuals who are using the social media platform in ‘authentic and creative ways’. Whoever bags the roles will then be tasked with creating content for the blog and the site’s other editorial channels.
Just what constitutes an authentic and creative Instagrammer is up for debate, but it’s worth bearing in mind that the new roles are actually on the marketing team, so the focus is on promotion rather than your Pulitzer Prize-aspiring pieces.
The Instagram blog – running alongside the main site – posts on individuals, places and trends, creating a collage of carefully crafted user content, and all using the site’s revolutionary hashtag structure. Obvs.

Also, if you want to bag a job creating this content, then a couple of student magazine articles cobbled together to make a portfolio isn’t going to cut it, unfortunately, because all the roles need at least one year’s experience. If you’re looking for something more senior, you’ll need 8+ years experience at ‘a reputable global editorial publication’.
So, if you’ve got the credentials and reckon you can fend off the competition, Instagram promises ‘a very unique learning opportunity for a new generation in this space’. This might just be the ultimate 21st century job.
