Remember that episode of Sex and The City when Charlotte gets herself in a massive tizz about getting her and Harry’s wedding in The New York Times? Wasn’t that just so relatable and totally the kind of thing that we’re all going to worried about in a few years? Yes? No? Not so much?
The New York Times’ marriage section – which is a self-aggrandising wedding announcement page in case you’ve been living under a rock for millennia – has been the place for New York’s great and good (and smug) to tell the world that they, too, have found their beloved and will soon be betrothed to them for the rest of time. Obviously, the section has only ever been relatable to a tiny portion of society, but with a huge proportion of 20-somethings choosing cohabitation over marriage and a sizeable chunk admitting they’ll likely never get married, the section couldn’t really feel more out of touch.
It’s something that certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Onion, who have made an AMAZING parody series of the wedding announcements called ‘Who’s Fucking?’. Have a look at them yourselves and tell us if you don’t think they make for a much more realistic representation of the relationships we’re having now.
