Anti-domestic abuse advert goes right to cause of violence…

This Video Reminds Football Fans To Not Hit Their Partners

Last year, we brought you a brilliant but harrowing short video explaining that domestic violence increases whenever England exits the World Cup.

That’s why we think it’s pretty tremendous that Women’s Aid has made this viral advert ahead of the end of the football season. You can watch it here, but just FYI it’s pretty harrowing:

If you can’t watch right now, the video explains the contradiction that, on the pitch, violence isn’t allowed and those who deliberately lash out are given the red card and sent off. That’s why, off the pitch, the attitude should be the exactly same.

Polly Neate, chief executive of Women’s Aid said: ‘Women’s Aid is working with football clubs and football organisations as part of our Football United Against Domestic Violence campaign, to use the power of football to raise awareness of abuse in relationships, and let people know where they can find help and support if they are affected.

‘On average, two women a week in England and Wales are killed by a partner or ex-partner.’

Hopefully, this video will get to the right places – the eyeline of potential perpetrators of domestic violence – and encourage the abuse to stop, rather than encouraging those abused to change their behaviours.
