She scored a hat-trick in, like, the first fifteen minutes. And one was an absolute stonker.

USA Win Women's World Cup - Carli Lloyd Is Our New Fave Player

For the first time in 16 years, USA has taken home the world cup after last night's match against Japan saw a 5-2 victory. It was set to be a tough match considering Japan were the defending champions, but the game was basically America's after Carli Lloyd scored a hat-trick in the third, fifth and 16th minute. One from 54 yards out.

'I'm so proud and so zapped at the same time,' Lloyd said. 'It doesn't feel real. We just made history.'

Awarded the Golden Ball - signifying she was the best player of the tournament - Carli tied as top scorer in the World Cup alongside the Célia Sasic of Germany with six goals in total. Lauren Holiday and Tobin Heath scored the other two goals to ensure that America comfortable beat Japan - the teams have some history, after USA lost on penalties to Japan back in 2011.

The score is certainly evened, and obviously we're sad for England (who went out in the semis after a fluke own goal) but good on USA for finally getting a win after all these years - they haven't won since 1991 for god's sake. It's about time. And just check out that goal. I mean, it's beautiful.
