On the same day as three people died in a shooting spree at the Jewish Museum in Brussels, two Jewish youths were attacked in a Paris suburb.

The boys were dressed in traditional Jewish attire leaving a synagogue in Creteil, when they were set upon by two people, one of whom punched one of the boys in the eye with brass knuckles, causing severe injuries. He is expected to be in hospital for at least 10 days.

Interior Minister Bernard Caseneuve made a statement saying security would be increased at Jewish establishments and synagogues around France.

An Israeli couple and a French woman died when a lone gunman opened fire at the Jewish Museum of Brussels on Saturday.

French President Francois Hollande said he is certain the attack in Brussels was to target Jewish people: ‘The anti-Semitic nature of the act - a shooting, with intent to kill, in the Jewish Museum of Brussels - cannot be denied,’ he said.

The shooter is still at large.
