Tinder are introducing a "ladies first" setting that will allow women to stop men from messaging them those creepy and awful one-liners and instead be the ones to make the first move.
You might think this concept sounds familiar and that's because it's the exact premise of what Bumble is based on, Tinder's main rival dating app. Tinder is still allowing men to message women first if the default setting is kept, which currently allows either match to message each other first. If a woman does enable the "ladies first" setting then the man will have to wait patiently for her to make the first move.

Tinder's current system of letting either person make the first move after they mutually match has made it one of the most successful dating apps on the market to date. It currently has over 3 million paid subscribers in total and while Tinder doesn't disclose its registered or active user base, its app has been downloaded over 100 million times.
While it'll be helpful to have this all in one app, instead of switching between the two, not all women will agree that using the "ladies first" option will keep abusive comments at bay, it also seems like something designed with heteronormative gender roles in mind.
Hopefully with the new update, women might finally be able to avoid messages like these:
Tinder have tried to acquire Bumble in the past, but with the release of this update we can but only guess how those talks went. Yet, Bumble has firmly put its name on the map with it claiming to have over 26 million users. It'll be interesting to see if Tinder's new update has an impact on the proclaimed female-friendly dating app.
When asked on her thoughts of Tinder's plans, Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd responded: "We applaud any company making business decisions that empower women."
The new setting isn't available yet, but will be released in a future update.
