A student who pulled the fire alarm at his school after a fellow student went on a stabbing rampage has Instagrammed a survivor selfie from hospital, where his stab wounds were bandaged.

Wearing a hospital gown, Nate Scimio captioned the picture ‘Straight chillin at Children’s’, and points to his freshly-bandaged arm.

An as-yet unidentified 16-year-old male student attacked the students in the hallways before classes began on Wednesday at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville, close to Pittsburgh. The rampage injured 19 students and a school security guard.

The New York Daily News reports that the attacker seemingly deliberately aimed for victims’ abdomens. Many injuries were life-threatening, but fellow students helped to avoid fatalities by applying pressure to the wounds and curbing blood loss.

Mia Meixner, a student at the school said the attacker was 'really shy’ and ‘always kept to himself', adding that he didn’t talk to many people.

Some of the most seriously injured were airlifted to hospitals in Pittsburgh.

Police are currently searching the home of the suspect, who was taken into custody with a minor injury to his hand.
