It’s hotly tipped to be one of the biggest films of the year and now a new trailer for Suffragette has been released - you can watch it below.
The film tells the story of the brave women who fought for women’s right to vote and has an all-star cast including Carey Mulligan, Helen Bonham Carter and Meryl Streep.
As well as telling the story of the well-known campaigners like the Pankhursts the film focuses on the role working women played in the fight for emancipation and the sacrifices they made.
It also shows how the women were forced to turn to violence in order to get their message heard. Last month when you popped your vote into the ballot box in the general election did you think about the females who fought for your voice to be heard at the turn of the 20th century?
Carey plays Maud, one such working woman, who was willing to lose everything including her family her job and her freedom, in order to improve the lives of other women. It’s tipped to be an inspiring and emotional tale.
Here at Grazia HQ we believe in equality, feminism and we even successfully helped to change the law on **equal pay **– thanks to support from you lot, our lovely readers - so we know how much we owe to these brave women.
Suffragette, which was written by Abi Morgan and directed by Sarah Gavron, will be opening London's Film festival on the 7th of October. It will also be simultaneously screened in cinemas across the UK – mark the date in your diary now!
