It's pretty amazing that people can now get their degree through studying pop culture phenomenon, isn't it? It makes us wonder with great sadness why they didn’t have those things when we were at uni.

In any case, Professor Stef Woods at the American University in Washington DC has created a class based entirely on The Hunger Games and involves reading all three books, plus 40 or so other texts, including political publications and the feminist magazine Ms, which was founded by Gloria Steinem.

The Hunger Games: Class, Politics and Marketing is part of the American Cultural History syllabus and ‘examines the interplay of class, politics, ethics, and marketing.’ As part of the class, students will discuss oppression, feminism, food deserts, rebellion, the publishing industry, and social-media marketing.

Professor Woods told Teen Vogue the class will compare Katniss to other feminists and female leaders in history to try to figure out if she is a true feminist or ‘just someone who happens to be a female who led when she needed to.’

Firstly, this sounds like something we could happily dissect all day long and, secondly, how amazing does that professor sound? She previously taught a course based on Fifty Shades Of Grey. Oh, to have been a blushing fly on the wall in those lectures.
