Tara Monroe has just won over the internet. Why? Because she decided the answer to having your driving license suspended is obviously buying a child-sized hot pink Barbie jeep to cruise the streets at 5mph.
Tara, a 20-year-old industrial engineering junior at Texas State university, was told she wasn’t allowed to drive when she was arrested back in March after refusing to do a breathalyser test following a Waka Flocka concert. Her dad took her car away and offered her a bike to get from A to B, but Tara just wasn’t really feeling it.
She told mySA.com: ‘Riding a bike around campus sucks, like really sucks’, so when she found the electronic Barbie girl jeep on Craigslist for $60, she went for it. Tara named the toy car Charlene, after the little girl who owned it before her, and the pair have been doing the rounds on social media after being spotted rolling around campus.
I know, you’re probably sitting there concerned about the logistical issue of ‘how do you fit a 20-year-old in a toddler’s toy car’, but don’t worry, Tara is 5ft 3in, so she fits in it just fine. If anything, the fact that her legs overreach the confines of the driver’s seat a bit is nothing more than an added bonus of being able to peddle when the jeep runs out of battery.
OK sure, there are some downfalls, like you’d never be able to carry anything with you (some major bag downsizing would definitely have to happen), but you have to hand it to Tara – beside being the coolest person at Texas State right now, she looks SO unbelievably chilled.
All of the obvious safety rules apply of course, like don’t go around refusing to take breathalyser tests, kids, and please don’t even think about drink driving. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned from this is that battery powered toy cars are definitely in, and I now know what I’m asking for for my birthday.
