We remember Stacey Dash fondly as Cher’s best friend Dionne in Clueless – the film we watched over and over on video tape, recreated all the outfits from and repeated lines of ad infinitum.
But these days things are different; Alicia Silverstone has turned into an organic food and mummy blogger and Stacey Dash keeps popping up in headlines for all the wrong reasons.
After calling the #OscarsSoWhite boycott ‘ludicrous’ in 2016, and saying there was no need for Black History Month, Dash has been seen as a problematic figure.
Now, Republican Dash is running for congress in California’s 44th district, an area that voted for Hilary Clinton overwhelmingly in the presidential election of 2016, according to CNN.
Dash hasn’t released an official statement, but is teasing the run on social media and has filed the paperwork -- apparently following calls from her followers to start a campaign, tweeting: ‘A number of people online and off have suggested I run for political office. I wanted to see what my online community thinks of this idea as I mull the possibilities. Thoughts?’

The responses have been mixed, and of course there’s been a fair bit of eye-roll inducing trolling.
After tweeting her intention to run, one Twitter user brought up her Playboy spread, even though that has literally nothing to do with the announcement.
She replied: ‘My response: I conferred with my children when offered. They told me “go for it mom.” If they didn’t have an issue with it, neither should anyone else. #NoShame’
The position Dash is running for is currently held by Nanette Barragán, who is the first Latina to ever represent the 44th district and is a member of the Hispanic Caucus who advocate for issues important to Latinos.
Dash has tweeted to say a formal statement is coming, it looks like Dash to D.C. is really happening people.
