Sports Hijabs Now On Sale At House Of Fraser

House of Fraser is now selling a range of sports hijabs for Muslim women to wear while working out. The ‘modest’ sportswear, made by company Shorso, includes unitard bodysuits and light-weight hijabs.

‘Our sportswear is ideal for various physical activities such as swimming, aerobics and gymnastics,’ Shorso’s website reads.

‘We use the finest material in order to provide the best level of comfort and inspire you to be active, without compromise’

Hijabs can be divisive – some say that Muslim women are forced into wearing them, others say that it’s a woman’s choice how she wants to serve her God, so why should others intervene?

Regardless, when it comes to sports, everyone should have access, and banning or shaming women for wearing hijabs while playing sport – as the Asian Games committee did to Qatar’s women’s basketball team in 2014 – doesn’t really help the wearers at all, does it? In the more stringent Muslim faith schools, girls have been banned from playing sport even if they do wear the hijab. Yep, girls in this country banned from playing sport. That’s why we really can’t find any reason to argue with House of Fraser’s decision to stock a range of sportswear hijabs for Muslim girls and women to wear while working out.
