A 4-foot by 4-foot sinkhole has reportedly opened up outside of President Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach. The cause of the sinkhole is likely to be a water main which runs along the street in front of the estate. However, regardless of this banal reality, Twitter's imagination has run wild.

While a traffic alert read 'West Palm Beach Utilities distribution crews have secured the area and will most likely need to do some exploratory excavation today,' internet users just weren't having it. To them, the sinkhole was just a giant opening for hilarious metaphors and theories.

The theories ranged from a draining swamp to a portal and even an escape route:

Some people even joked that the sinkhole was caused when Trump touched what appeared to be a mysterious glowing orb during his trip to Saudi Arabia:

Others have praised the sinkhole for attempting to destroy Trump's estate. The universe does, indeed, work in mysterious ways.
