The Sims, the computer game which probably defined your youth and made you realise things about yourself such as you’re a completely terrible person because you put them in a swimming pool then took away the steps.

Chances are you probably thought that sims sex really was called woohoo for a while too.

Now the creators of The Sims havegot rid of gender boundaries entirely when it comes to creating characters. What this means is that when you come to make your Sim, your options for clothes, hair, body and whatever else, won’t be limited and you will have access to all the options so your Sim can be any way you want them to be.

This is being implemented in a free update from yesterday for The Sims 4. According to The Sims publisher EA and the developer Maxis, over 700 pieces of content that were only available to male or female Sims will now be available regardless of gender.

In a statement about the change they said that they wanted to ‘make sure players can create characters they can identify with or relate to through powerful tools that give them influence over a Sims' gender, age, ethnicity, body type and more.’

The Sims 4 executive producer Rachel Franklin told The Associated Press that they'd been working for over a year on the update. She also went on to say that players can now change their Sims' gender at any time during the game and specify whether they can reproduce with other characters. For the update, they worked with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advocacy group, GLAAD.
