The Oxford English Dictionary has added a new word – ‘shipping’, the term that describes an unusal relationship that fandom would like to see that is unlikely to happen. OK, it’s not the strangest word to be added recently (that award surely goes to ‘turducken’ – what?), but there are some strange examples of it in the deep depths of the world wide web.
So in celebration of the mainstream welcoming the word, here are some of the weirdest, most lols, and just mental ‘shipping’ examples out there. Starting with...
The sweet but strange story of Larry Stylinson
Perhaps the most well-known ‘shipping’ example out there. Harry meets Louis is on Urban Dictionaryand everything.
Star Trek
‘Kirk Spock’ is an actual thing. It all began after fans became convinced that there is a ‘spark’ between them during this massage scene.
Twilighted
Sorry Bella... In the make-believe world of fan-fiction these boys aren’t into you.
Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy
Harry and Hermoine we could deal with. This, not so much.
Sterek
‘Sterek’ is the name given to the fan world of Derek Hales and Stiles Stilinski from Teen Wolf. It’s a big deal on Pinterest.
**Hannigram **
We didn’t see this one coming. A Tumblr page dedicated to Dr Lecter and Will Graham from Hannibal. Eeek.
Spideypool
OK this MIGHT win the award for being THE weirdest of them all. Meet the ‘Spidey Pool’ family. Yep, that is Peter Parker as Spiderman, Wade Wilson as Deadpool. And their fictional child.
