If you’re a WhatsApp user (and frankly, who isn’t a WhatsApp user?), you’re probably pretty familiar with this scenario. When you’re commuting underground or in a signal black spot, the lack of connection stops you from pressing ‘send’ on a message, meaning you’ll have to return to the app later and try again (by which time, you’ll probably have forgotten all about it – and have received about 45 angry notifications…)
Thanks to the latest iOS WhatsApp update, though, this momentary frustration is about to be a thing of the past. The new version of the messaging app will allow you to queue up messages, meaning that they’ll automatically send once you’ve found an internet connection.
According to WhatsApp’s latest listing in the App Store, ‘you can now tap send on messages when you don’t have a connection. Messages will be queued up and sent when your phone regains a connection.’ To access this new feature, all you need to do is update the app to version 2.17.1 (which your Apple device may well have done automatically). We can almost hear WhatsApp groups across the land breathing a heavy sigh of relief…
The update will also allow users to send up to 30 photos and videos at once, and features a redesigned storage usage screen. This will let you see how much memory space particularly GIF-laden chats are occupying on your iPhone – and gives you the option to clear certain message types (like large video files) from specific chats.
Anything that fends off the dreaded ‘Storage Almost Full’ message is a good thing in our book…
