How To Save Loads Of Money Without Really Trying

Prepare to be obsessed with £2 coins

When will the gender pay gap close

Saving money is hard. Like, REALLY hard. I definitely don’t know as much as I should about interest and savings accounts and well, anything to do with saving money like a grown up human being. What little money I do have in my purse tends to go on that ‘quick’ drink after work, or that new lipstick I promise myself I’ll wear all the time and then don’t, or a taxi from the train station to my house when I can’t face walking up a whole entire hill.

OK, so I may need to re-prioritise my spending habits a tad, but the frustrating thing is that it’s hard to feel inclined to save when you don’t actually have that much to begin with: enter super-easy way to save little bits of money all the time and eventually feel like you’re loaded. All you need is a spare coin purse and a teeny tiny bit of extra will power.

The rule is whenever you pay for something with cash, every time you get a £2 coin with your change (and we mean every single time, no cheating), you pop it in your new handy £2 coin purse, and you keep it there until it’s nice and full.

If you’re anything like me and it’s way too much temptation to have a bag full of money that you’re not meant to touch with you at all times, we’ve got you covered. Why not try and get into the routine of emptying your purse at the end of the day? Then, hide your coins somewhere safe until you’re ready to pull a Harry and buy the whole cart of sweets on the Hogwarts Express with your new bag of gold. Or you can strut over to the bank with a big of coins that actually don’t need to be separated. Either way…

This nifty little trick has been popular over in the United States for a while now, and using $5 dollar bills, one woman recently saved $36,000. Admittedly she was stashing fivers for 12 years, but nontheless, there’s proof out that that it can actually work... *

Don’t worry, it might seem like a lot of effort at first, but once you’ve got it into your head that £2 coins are not for spending, it’s actually pretty easy and you’ll be mega surprised by the amount that you can save.
