There’s Been A Big Samsung Galaxy S8 Leak, Here’s What We Know

The wait for the Samsung Galaxy S8 is almost over, in just three days Samsung will hold a press conference to announce all the latest updates and features of the new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 plus. While I myself might be an avid iPhone user, let’s not forget that some of you lovely readers might be in team android.

And while there’s still three days till the big announcement…German tech site WinFuture got there first and leaked all the latest updates. Here’s what we know so far.

Samsung-Galaxy-S8-2

The new Samsung already uses a fingerprint scanner, but the new model with support gesture recognition - meaning you’ll be able to programme specific gestures to open certain apps. Handy. Pun intended. An ‘iris scanner’ (which is as cool as it sounds and yes it does scan your actual eye iris) will also be included on the front of the the Galaxy Note 7, so it’s not just the Galaxy S8 users who get updates.

The new models will receive a big camera update, including 8MP front facing camera so your selfie game can improve massively if that’s your thing - ofc it is. The back camera will have laser autofocus, which basically means the Dual Pixel focus is able to ‘capture highly dynamic situations.’ Going running and want a speed shot? This is the camera for you.

Both the new models will be significantly bigger than the original models with the S8 coming in with a 5.8-inch display, compared to the 5.1 Galaxy S7. So if you’re not comfortable holding large phones because you’re worried you might drop it, this isn’t the phone for you.

And the S8 Plus will, obviously, be even bigger, with a 6.2-inch display. Both phones will have curved OLED displays and no home button (like the new iPhone), but they will be water and dust resistant.

I was completely unaware of this, being an iPhone user, but apparently battery life is an issue with Samsung - and that might still be an underlining problem with the new S8 and S8 Plus. The models will support the same size batteries as the S7 and S7 Edge (300mAhm and 3500mAh) so nothing new there - and given that the new models are much bigger this might cause some problems.

If you are interested in these new models, make sure you keep a beady eye out in the next couple of days for the offical press announcement.
