The Grammys have offically been renamed The Sammys as our very own Sam Smith swept the board at the awards’ 57th annual ceremony last night.

The British singer kicked off the night by winning Best New Artist and went on to pick up Record of the Year and Song of the Year for ‘Stay With Me’ and Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘In the Lonely Hour’.

Sam told the audience during his fourth and final speech: “I just wanna say that before I made this record I was doing everything to try and get my music out. I was trying to lose weight and I was making awful music. It was only until I started to be myself that the music started to flow and people started to listen.”

Meanwhile, Kanye kaused khaos AGAIN when he lept to the defence of Beyoncé after she was beaten to Album of the Year by Beck’s ‘Morning Phase’. The record, which had already won Best Rock Album, also triumphed over Sam Smith, Pharrell Williams and Ed Sheeran.

Kanye, who infamously crashed the stage when Taylor Swift won Best Female Video prize over B at the 2009 MTV VMAs, poked fun at himself as he walked to the stage as Beck accepted the prize and looked like he was about to interrupt his speech. Cameras cut to Beyonce who appeared to mouth “not again” before showing Kanye turning away and making his way back to his seat.

The rapper later told E! “I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists, to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more...Beck needs to respect artistry and he should’ve given his award to Beyoncé.”

Although she missed out on album of the Year, Beyoncé did take home Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance for her collaboration with husband Jay Z, ‘Drunk in Love’. Pharrell Williams also had a good night, taking home the prizes for Best Music Video and Best Pop Solo Performance for ‘Happy’ and Best Urban Contemporary Album for ‘G I R L’.

The evening also included some amazing, star-studded performances from Rihanna, joined by Kanye and Paul McCartney, Jessie J and Tom Jones, Sam Smith and Mary J Blige, and Katy Perry.
