Would you have sex in front of your baby? It’s the latest debate to divide the internet, after Australian artist and influencer Sally Mustang was forced to respond to widespread criticism after posting on Instagram that she and partner Mitch Gobel had been ‘making love’ while their five month old son Azure was present.

In the now deleted post, Sally - who lives in Byron Bay - wrote how she 'makes love' to Mitch while Azure is ‘present’, and she wondered why something so 'natural' had a line 'drawn' through it in society which made her actions seem unacceptable.

The comments section suggested why that line had been drawn, with many Instagram users telling Sally that what she was doing was morally unacceptable. Some of them said that sex is an 'adult topic' too complicated for young children to understand, and that Azure could have psychological issues later in life as a result.

'Imagine if he came to you at eight years old and said he was ready to have sex, because sex was such an open topic in your household,' one said.

However other users commented that sex was a perfectly natural thing and if done discreetly and sensitively wouldn't be harmful in the slightest.

On Monday morning, after deleting the post, Sally then shared a response to her critics on the website she runs with Mitch, Sex Is Art that details their sex life.

'Please note I have worked and studied a lot with sex and sexual trauma. In no way am I subjecting my son to this so if you have had a hard story when it comes to sexuality I'm really sorry this happened for (sic) you and I'm sending you love from my heart,' she said. 'I understand your projections will be deep and probably judgmental of me.'

Sally said her term 'making love' referenced 'making out, massage and anything me and Mitch define as love together'.

This is not the first time that Sally, who has 325,000 followers, has been criticised for her posts on Instagram. Last year her account was deactivated when she was reported for posting ‘sexual content’, after posting a photo of herself naked in the bath whilst five months pregnant. She said at the time, 'I'm so, so disappointed in whoever's running the show there because I just don't understand what kind of message that sends out... that Instagram doesn't accept pregnant bodies? Or that being empowered and loving yourself if not ok?'.
