We basically already communicate in Emoji 50% of the time, so we are really into the news that there is an emoji-only social network app about to be released.
Creators Matt Gray and Tom Scott have made Emojli mobile only initially (er, who uses emojis on their computers, anyway?) and it will be a messenger-only service to begin with. They say the app will entirely alleviate spam, trolls, memes and hashtags #butwelikehashtags
The Independent asked if Emojli would be the next Yo – the single-word app that received $1.2m in funding recently – to which Scott answered: ‘Yes. Literally. Yo was the last mostly-useless app to get a load of attention, so I guess we're the next one.’
Here’s the best part: your username is comprised only of emojis. Cute – although it won’t be so easy to verbally spell out to people i.e. ‘I’m three hamburgers, the French fries, the glass of red wine and the smiley face with the mask over it.’
You can watch the video below. It sounds like a Brass Eye sketch. But it’s not. And we signed up for the app, obvi. Factoid: flags count as two characters. Here's why.
