Kate and William arrived at St Mary's Hospital by car on Saturday morning at 6am, with Kate in the early stages of labour. It was all very quick as their daughter was delivered two and a half hours later at 8.34am.
News of the birth was then announced on Twitter just after 11am. Following tradition, an easel was then placed outside Buckingham Palace confirming news of the birth.
Kensington Palace tweeted following the news: "Their Royal Highnesses would like to thank all staff at the hospital for the care and treatment they have all received." They added: "They would like to thank everyone for their warm wishes."

In the afternoon Prince William took his son George to the Lindo Wing to meet his baby sister for the first time. Wills drove to Kensington Palace to pick up his son, and then returned shortly afterwards with George wearing a matching blue jumper.
Prince George tried to walk himself but after a few uneasy steps, Prince William picked him up and carried him. William enouraged George to wave to the photographers and crowds, before he kissed his head and led him through the Lindo Wing doors meet his sister.

Shortly afterwards the royal couple headed home to Kensington Palace, stopping for the photographers to let the world meet their sleeping daughter. Kate wore a yellow buttercup-print Jenny Packham dress, with three-quarter-length sleeves and an ombre-effect skirt. As for the princess, she was wrapped up in a white knitted blanket.
