Is Pretty Little Liars your TV guilty pleasure? Then you might want to read on, but beware because SPOILERS ARE HERE.

The hugely popular drama ended its sixth season on US TV last night, and finally revealed the identity of character 'A', who has been making the group of young and beautiful teens' lives HELL for the past few seasons.

But the big reveal has come under attack from fans - with many criticising the storyline for being transphobic. The show revealed that 'A' was CeCe Drake, who was Charles DiLaurentis before transitioning into a woman.

CeCe was born as character Alison's older brother, Charles, who was sent away to psychiatric institution. She then transitioned into a woman called Charlotte, and then changed her name to CeCe Drake. Then, she became a multi-millionare who embarked on a mission to destroy the lives of teenage girls. And knowingly dated her brother Jason, who she met as a woman under her new name (although nothing sexual happened).

A number of fans have criticised the show for including a transgender character who is a mentally unstable killer, and several have suggested it was implied that her transition was the reason for her behaviour. They also reacted strongly to the inclusion of incest.

One fan wrote "That's 5 years of my life I'm never gonna get back" on Twitter. Another tweeted about the show's creator: "Marlene King, your attempt at introducing a transgender character was horrific and quite offensive."

A fan has even created a petition asking for a new A to be chosen. It remains to be seen whether there will be an alternative ending, but after such a strong reaction to the finale, we wonder if the show writers will consider it.

Meanwhile, show creator Marlene suggested that a movie could be happening - and that PLL could run to season 8 in an interview with Variety.
