Believe it or not, but we're already half way through 2017, meaning that the experts at Nameberry are ready to reveal this year's most popular baby names to date.
For girls, the top names have remained constant since last year’s list, with classic choices Olivia, Amelia and Charlotte taking the first three spots. We can, of course, assume that the latter of the three is still enjoying the ‘royal baby’ boost, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge choosing to name their first daughter Charlotte back in May 2015. Other classic names enjoying new popularity include Evelyn and Penelope.
Less conventional choices such as Aurora and Isla still have a presence in the girls’ top 10, though, while The Independent reports that the likes of Celeste, Ines and Saskia have all made it into this year’s top 100.
For boys, the list is more surprising, with Asher coming out on top ahead of Atticus and the more traditional Jack. Ezra, which Nameberry placed at number one back in 2016, has dropped down to fourth place, followed by Theodore, Milo and Jasper.
Nameberry ranked their list by analysing the traffic data for the most viewed baby names by visitors to the site in the first half of 2017, a method which the site believes to help gauge future popularity and current trends in naming.
