So-called moral policing in India is really getting out of hand, with students under investigation for kissing; the irony being that they were kissing during a protest called Kiss of Love which objects to moral policing.

The* Kiss of Love* campaign was started after a group of people vandalised a coffee shop in Kerala, India because they felt the couples there were behaving inappropriately. Behavior that can be considered inappropriate is a woman sitting too close to a man who is not her husband, allowing a man to put his arm around you even for a group selfie, and riding on a motorcycle with a man. Police have actually questioned and cautioned young people over this type of ‘obscene’ activity.

Students at the University of Hyberadad who openly kissed in a protest against the oppressive policy are now being investigated by police, who say they will view video footage to find the obscene offenders. ‘Based on their report and also the video footage we will take further action,’ said Inspector J Ramesh of Gachibowli police station, adding that an inquiry is being conducted by a committee set up by the university.

Kiss of Love organisers are facing trouble because Section 294 of Indian Penal Code says anyone committing any obscene act in a public place can go to prison for up to three months.
