The producers of Poldark have revealed they almost cut Aiden Turner's topless scenes from the first series as he looked too muscly for the time.
In a discussion that, frankly, we’d have loved to have been part of, Damien Timmer from the show’s production company revealed they had a full-on debate as to whether it was Captain Ross Poldark's nakedness while working out in a field was appropriate or not.
Speaking at the Radio Times festival this weekend about the BBC 1 period drama, Damien said: 'It wasn't something we really talked about, it was never meant to be a big thing. Then we looked at the rushes [raw film] and we couldn't believe he was so muscly.'
'Karen [Thrussell, the executive producer] actually thought he was too muscly and there were discussions about whether he looked too well built for that moment in time.'
It’s not really a tough call, is it?
And while many viewers were lapping up a bit of hunky chest action, there were some haters who really missed the point. Damien added that there were complaints from the scything community (who knew?) who hit out against Aidan’s 'excessive sweating and grunting' while doing the manual field work and that the activity should never be done shirtless.
Some people suck the fun out of everything, don’t they?
