Three cheers for the men and women that came out this weekend to protest against the woman who was jailed for assaulting a police officer with her breast.
30-year-old Ng Lai-ying was jailed for three and a half months last week after she accused a police officer of touching her breast at a protest against Chinese mainlanders buying tax-free goods in Hong Kong back in March. Unfortunately the judge ruled against her and instead claimed that she deliberately pushed her breast against him so that she could call him out on it. According to magistrate Michael Chan Pik-kiu, Lai-ying had 'used her female identity to trump up the allegation that the officer had molested her.'
On Sunday, around 200 protesters took to the streets of Hong Kong on a 'breast walk' with many wearing bras either over shirts or just on their naked chests all the while chanting 'breasts are not weapons.'
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Kit Ling, the chairperson of the association for the advancement of Feminsim in Hong Kong said: 'We think it's very problematic. We have a common understanding that women should feel comfortable to speak out if they feel they're being attacked. I think it's a ridiculous to claim that a woman's breast is a weapon. We can't imagine why this happened.'
Demonstrators were asking for a review of Ng's case.
