All of our Facebook feeds are full of them. You know what I’m talking about. Smug ‘we’re totes in love’ couple selfies. They’re clichéd but we’ve all been there at some point. Well, I mean, apart from me, obviously I’ve never ever posted a soppy couple selfie (ahem).
When Emily Musson, a student from New York, posted some cutesy snaps of her new BF on Facebook, her parents decided to have a go and recreate the romantic selfies themselves.
Ultimate embarrassing parents, right? But also, respect, because I’ve secretly always wanted to post a picture of myself looking loved up by some bins or on the tube when I see images of my friends and their partners snogging in paradise on the web.
According to Emily, her parents, Nancy and Craig, haven’t actually met her new boyfriend who she only met two weeks ago (never too soon for a couple selfie), but they love to mock her, so she wasn’t at all surprised by their behaviour.
Emily’s parents, who have been together for 28 years, trolled their daughter with some tongue-in-cheek couple pics of their own.
In the pictures Nancy and Craig are striking a variety of poses: sticking out their tongues, neck kissing and looking serious in sunglasses with a black and white filter (nailed it, guys).
Emily posted the photos on her Twitterwith the caption, ‘my parents r on drugs or something’, where they were retweeted 40,000 times with over 56,000 favourites in less than a day.
She told Cosmopolitan, ‘When it went viral I was confused. Like, yeah, it’s funny but, like, it’s more interesting if you actually know my parents.’
I’m not sure many of us think our parents are 40,000 likes worth of funny.
Nancy and Craig, however, are unsurprised that they’ve been such a hit on the Internet.
‘My mom thinks it’s hilarious and claims she wants to be on Dancing With the Stars’, Emily said. Yes, Nancy! Why not.
