Oscar Pistorius is to be granted parole after just ten months of his sentence for the culpable homicide, or manslaughter, of his then-girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
The Paralympian - and Olympian - athlete will serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, under what is known as 'correctional supervision'.
Pistorius has always denied shooting at his locked bathroom door with an intention of hurting Reeva, insisting that he thought he was attacking an intruder in the small hours of Valentine's Day, 2013.
Nomsa Maseko, the BBC's reporter, says that it's likely Pistorius won't be able to own guns while he is under house arrest.
The prosecution has appealed all of Oscar's sentencing, insisting he should have been tried for murder, not manslaughter (after all, even if there was an intruder in his bathroom, did that give him the right to shoot to kill that person? Plus, there has been evidence suggesting that him and Reeva had fought the night of her death, and there's the simple, horrible fact that domestic violence increases around Valentine's Day). The appeal case will be heard on the 3rd of November.
Pistorius will be free to go home on Tuesday, 20th October.
