So Obama has gone and bloody done it. Yep, he’s cut all abstinence-only sex education in public schools from the 2017 federal budget on the sly. As explained by SIECUS (the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States), Government funding of abstinence-only-until-marriage is not a new thing. It’s been around for over a quarter of a century with the federal US Government fueling it with tax-payers moment despite a large range of research showing that it’s totally ineffective, so basically it’s a completely pointless program which Obama has now put a stop too – what a guy.

If you didn’t know what ‘Abstience Only’ sex-ed was, it’s a course that refuses to teach kids about vital parts of not only sex education, but LIFE education. Like how to use condoms, or which birth control girls should consider. It prefers teens to abstain, not indulging in activties such as sex before marriage. Sounds a bit old school doesn't it? Obviously we know our sex education wasn’t the most informative, putting condoms on bananas might seem hilarious at the time and most people got that kind of information from friends or the internet, but the simple fact is, we had it and didn’t have a conflicting class telling us otherwise. Taught mainly by Christian sects, ‘Abstience Only’ sex ed should have been shown the door and sent packing long, long ago.

A 2007 study from the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, written by a leading sexual health researcher Dr. Douglas Kirby, discussing what school programs actually do their job and prevent teens from pregnancy and STIs stated:

“At present, there does not exist any strong evidence that any abstinence program delays the initiation of sex, hastens the return to abstinence, or reduces the number of sexual partners.”

So, in response, Obama decided to eliminated a $10 million-a-year grant to fund these programes from the Department of Health and Human services which, over the past 25 years , Congress has spent a whopping $1.5 billion on. So, bravo POTUS, another great deed done.
